Ok, I was watching the first movie again the other day and started thinking: did Steele's musher die after being thrown from the sled? I mean, we see the dogs loading his limp body into the sled and then we never see if he woke up. What do you guys think?

Hmm, I thought about that too, but I could never come to a personal decision. I guess it's up to the viewer.

Well, he did hit that rock pretty hard and we never did see him wake up.

There is no evidence of that anywhere in the movie. In fact, during the return trip, with him laying on the back of the sled, he is heard to groan once or twice. I am quite certain he lived.
