Your Home
The 13-year old Snow leopard Cheng-Ti was shocked by the news that the only parents he had ever known and loved, Crane and Mei Ling, had adopted him. Right now, he felt not only shocked, but saddened that they hadn't yet told him. According to them, they had found him when he was just a newborn cub. He had been the son of a very poor family of leopards that couldn't afford to care for him. It was then that Crane and Mei Ling adopted him as their own. Now, Cheng sat on the steps of the Jade Palace, trying to figure things out. Mei Ling came out to console him.
"Cheng?" the pretty Mountain cat began.
Cheng looked at his mother.
"Why did you and Dad decide to take me?" he asked.
Mei Ling sat next to him.
"We loved you from the moment we saw you. We knew that we had to take you in," she said.
Cheng looked at her again.
"So everything that I am, everything that I thought, is a lie?" he asked.
Mei Ling's eyes went wide. She put a paw on his shoulder.
"No. Cheng, you are our son and our son alone. We love you," she said.
Cheng gave her a look.
"Why did you choose me?" he asked.
Mei Ling smiled sweetly.
"We didn't, Cheng. The great masters of the past did," she replied.
*Mei Ling gently holds his face and begins to sing*
Mei Ling:
This is your home, my son
Here the great masters brought you
And it is here that they meant
To be your home
Now you know the truth, love
Now, forget and be content
When the masters send you a blessing
You don't ask why it was sent
*As the song ends, Cheng hugs Mei tightly, trying to avoid crying*
"Mom, I love you. You are my mother and no one else," he said.
Mei Ling returned the hug.
"I love you, Cheng. Now, please, forget this and come inside," she said.
Cheng did exactly that, forgetting his sadness for the moment.
