This is the thread for the discussion of the real Balto and the 1925 serum run. No talk of the films in here please.

Balto was half wolf have dog. He looked a bit different from the one in the movie And I love his paws they are adorable.

^ He certainly looks different than his movie counterpart. Sadly, the final part of his story after the serum run is rather tragic.

No. He was purchased later and horribly neglected.

No. He was purchased later and horribly neglected. He and six other members of his team, that is. But that was for a brief period in early 1927. But then he was purchased yet again, through the hard work of Cleveland businessman George Kimble (and the press), and plenty of donations from across the U.S., moved to Cleveland. And the seven dogs were moved to a secure location, cleaned up, fed, nursed back to health, and ferried by train to Cleveland, where they were celebrated, given a parade, and then a special enclosure in what was the Cleveland Brookside Zoo (now the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo), where they spent the remainder of their lives quite well-cared for.
