Here's a thread to discuss wolves in general. Wolves are among my favorite animals. I love the sound of their howl.

Wolves have to be my top favorite animal, despite the fact that a lot of people dislike them for being a rather popular animal.
Off topic: Could there be an animal board?

Wolves are my second favorite animal after big cats, and yes there can be. I'll get on it right now.

I have no idea. I've never heard of them doing it.

That's very unlikely. Wolves are a pack animal obviously, and wolves like puppies. All the wolves in the pack will care for the puppies, even take turns baby sitting the pups. And if one dies they will bury it. www.wolfcountry.net/information/WolfPup.html

so wolves might take in orphaned pups they find?

That's highly unlikely. If a pup were to be orphaned, it wouldn't survive. Another animal would be bound to kill it for food. That or it would have died.

Wolves are always testing each other, but that wolf is quickly reminded about its rank. Testing for status can also occur when the alpha is old and showing signs of weakness. You may want to watch this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW7GZws661k

I agree with Mighty, Wolves always go by rank, there's Alpha, Beta, and the Omega. When an Alpha gets old or shows signs of weakness they'll step down and then a Beta will take his or hers place as the new Alpha.
